Robert McDermott, Ph.D.; is president emeritus and professor of philosophy and religion at the California Institute of Integral Studies (San Francisco). His writings include: The Essential Aurobindo (1973/1987), The Essential Steiner (1984). He is currently preparing four books to be published by Steiner Books: The Bhagavad Gita and the West (in press) The New Essential Steiner (soon to be finished) SteinerUnique, Not Alone (due 2008) Buddha and Christ (due 2009). He has served as president of the New York Center for Anthroposophy and Rudolf Steiner [summer] Institute, and has chaired the boards of Sunbridge College (New York) and Rudolf Steiner College (Fair Oaks, CA). He was a member of the council of the Anthroposophical Society in America from 1996 to 2004. He is the founding chair of the board of the Sophia Project, two homes in west Oakland for children and mothers at risk of homelessness. Inspired by anthroposophy and Waldorf education, Sophia Project was founded by Carol Cole and is directed by Carol and her husband, David Barlow. |
